Buddy Rich is known all over the world for his impossible drum solos. This is from the Hudson Music DVD (1970).
In 6 minutes Buddy shows us all his tecnique, creativity, vocabulary, chops, linears and stickings patterns that made him known as the best drummer ever.
Why you should learn this solo:
- to improve exponentially your tecnique: Buddy use a lot of rudiments in his solos, especially singles, doubles, paradiddles, double paradiddle, flams, rolls, etc.
The singles at the end of the solo are perhaps the fastest singles ever played from a drummer;
- to learn Buddy Rich's typical sticking patterns, for example: RLL RLL or LRRL R;
- multiple strokes per hand: Buddy often plays multiple strokes with one hand, especially the left hand, this is a great way to stranghten the weaker side;
- creative use of cymbals;
- to learn Buddy Rich's typical linear phrases, a great way to improve the coordination beetween hand and feet;
- cross patterns: Buddy was also a showman, and he often played phrases crossing his hands;
