Last year (2023) I decided to tackle learning and recording this epic instrumental by Dream Theater. I learned it in small chunks so I wouldn't feel too overwhelmed with the whole 6 and a half minutes. The problem while learning it was that the two existing transcriptions both had their flaws (one by a noted publisher!) with one transcribing the version MP played on the Hudson Music DVD (he plays differently than the album version), the other notating things in a way that made it extraordinarily hard to understand and was probably done by a machine. The transcription in the video is my version of those two transcriptions and how I played it which is very close to the original. After revising it recently with the isolated drum track, the transcription here is exactly the way MP plays it on Scenes From a Memory. I hope you enjoy it!!
